Rouen, France's other Arts Center.

Very much like noted names like Manet, Rouen also attracted artists like Sisley, Alfred (b. Oct. 30, 1839, Paris, Fr.--d. Jan. 29, 1899, Moret-sur-Loing), painter who was one of the creators of French Impressionism.

It seems from time Rouen at times was the urban getaway of its time.

Most notably was the attraction of its churches such as the The Church of Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc, built in Rouen in 1979. See article on. Travel Tidbits . The leading factor for all the church construction is a reflection of the post conflict period of the 100 years war amd War of the Roses.

You can just imagine what the population felt. " Whew no more hacking away on my neighbors or with the English." The burst of construction and the symbolizisms of the heros are all too apparent.

Thus the attraction of the Art communities to this urban getaway is one of the leading factor which inspired the Impressionalist Art movement and era.

The other day I was at my home computer and discovered some interesting items about The City of Rouen, France. Around the 12th and 13th Centuries, The Rouen Cathedral was built. It was an impressive structure which beagn the Gothic era in Archietectural design. See Gothic.

This architectual materpiece was so impressive, that a Franch innovative painter, Cluade Monet, did several Impresionalist painting of this wondeful structure. See Monet.
